Freethoughts.org was down, for about two weeks.
We sincerely apologize to our readers and authors for the interrupted access to the site and thank you all for your patience in this period. The delay in restoring the website had much to do with the unexpected transfer of the hosting service and our lack of preparation for moving (our latest backup was July 31st and covered only the main site). There are still missing portions of the website that we will have to restore gradually from "Google's cache", and in the meanwhile some comments and posts will not be available.
Here is what happened:
Our web hosting was provided through one of our authors by "Hosting Matters". The plan was to move to "bloghosts" as they offered better quality service at a lower price, and as our hosting period with Hosting Matters ended, the renewal did not happen automatically and we were removed from the servers. Our latest backup of the website was old, and we did not have a recent backup of the database either. To cut a long story short, what we did was to buy a new hosting plan from bloghosts, copy our latest backup on top of it and restore the latest copy of the database, and fix the config files. It seems that besides three missing posts and the latest comments everything and the posting functionality has been restored and our authors may login with their old passwords.
No! Contrary to the common rumors freethoughts was not censored or hacked.
